Grooming can be very simple and easy if you have the right attitude and schedule. Poodles do have hair not fur, so NO SHEDDING. And yet, hair grows and grows, therefore, hair cutting is essential. It isn't as scary as it sounds. You will have to groom your dog regularly.

We start with nail trimming at a couple of weeks, then begin getting them used to clippers shortly after that. They get their first bath and blow dry around five weeks of age, so will be little pros before you know it.

You must do your part with brushing! At first every day to get them used to the routine, as your puppy gets more used to this you can do this three times a week to maintain their coat. If you keep up with the brushing you can do this in about five minutes.

Professional grooming (hair cuts) are every 5 to 7 weeks, depending on your preferred cut. If you love the time spent brushing your dog a longer cut may suit you both. If it is a chore, maybe a puppy cut will be just right for you. We began doing our own grooming many years ago, it has become our stress relief. Fortunately when things don't go perfectly it is hair. It will grow out shortly! No matter what style you choose, or who does your cuts, just be sure to keep up with your grooming. Matts are no fun for you, or your dog, prevention is easier than removal.

Please remember: grooming is a part of this breeds life and consider this before making a commitment.
